5-BATTEN WAVE SAIL WITH MAXIMUM HIGH-END CONTROL AND A PLAYFUL FEEL ON THE WAVE.

OVERVIEW

The PATRIK 5Wave is our most playful, super-efficient, 5-batten classic wavesail. Developed in Margaret River, Australia, by Patrik Diethelm and 3D mastermind Fabio Canella, this sail is the first choice for crossover freestyle/wave and maximum control in big waves and strong winds. Key to the 5Wave's outstanding control and efficiency is the high aspect ratio design. The refined outline taken from our 4Wave power wave sail allows for maximum control at high speeds and an easier release in top turns and big landings. By giving slightly more luffcurve than other modern wavesails, we managed to increase the tension on the sail body for maximum control and a locked sail pressure point while reducing the swinging of the mast in choppy conditions at the same tim

CONSTRUCTION

MATERIAL SELECTION

Which material and where to use it has been one of the key points in the development of our wave range. Rather than increase the shape into the panels (which leads to extra stress for the stitching and decreases the range of use) we decided to play with sail materials instead and carefully chose the correct thickness for each area. Going from "mast to clew", we have soft dacron for the luff panel, then 2 MIL x/scrim-ply for the front/top part and 4 MIL x/scrim-ply for the base. All the panels along the leech are thicker 5 MIL x/warp ply. This mix helps the wind to blow the sail exactly where you want the power avoiding the draft to shift back when conditions become stronger. In comparison to the 4-Wave, we designed a bigger area in 5 MIL to enhance the hi-wind performance of our 5-batten wave sail.

DESIGN FEATURES

As a final touch, we studied our own kevlar load spread lines. They connect clew, B1 tip and the two innovative mini-battens on the luff panel. The secret of the incredible wind range is (also) here...
Last but not least, we focused to provide you a sail as light as possible that it's still capable to survive some big wipe outs and last you for years. This is our true approach on sustainability.

TRIM

The 5Wave offers the same extended trim-range on both downhaul and outhaul as the 4Wave.
First set your favourite downhaul to define the amount of loose-leech you like best. Less downhaul for a freestyle/wave baggy feel and a more open leech for down-the-line sailing and high-wind jumping. Then mainly use your outhaul to set the desired amount of profile, power and drive.

Pro Tips

Bastien Escofet

‌ BASTIEN ESCOFET (Professional Surfer)
"The playful feeling of the 5Wave favours lighter riders like me, as this 5-batten sail got less backhand power than our 4Wave. So don't confuse this 5-batten concept with the standard approach of other brands who usually design a 4-batten sideshore sail and a 5-batten onshore wave. It's different here. With our sails the 4Wave actually got more grind and drive that the 5Wave which also performs awesome in strong winds. The 4-Wave is perfect in lighter winds and for heavier riders though."

About Us

Shaping with more than 25 years of technical expertise, Patrik Diethelm is far more than just another name in windsurfing. From his humble beginnings as a shop customer himself to a high-profile F2 brand employee and PWA professional, his move to founding the brand PATRIK together with Karin Jaggi in 2010 was simply a natural progression. Today we create windsurfing boards and sails, rig components, foils and fins and some of the most advanced wings and boards in the industry. In windsurfing we find our roots. Windsurfing is still driving us. Winging, surf foiling and any other windsports are what we came to love more and more over the years.
